Hello,


Last week, I was speaking with a senior leader at a global technology company.

We were discussing culture, capability, and why their mid-level managers seemed exhausted despite no major organisational crisis.


Midway through the meeting, he said something quietly:


“Aditya… my people aren’t burning out because of work.  They’re burning out because they don’t feel  heard .”


That one line stayed with me.


Because it mirrors what I’ve been hearing across industries — pharma, tech, manufacturing, GCCs, global teams.


And here’s the kicker:


People can handle pressure. What they can’t handle is feeling invisible.

When leaders listen late, culture breaks early.

When managers react, instead of anticipate, teams retreat.

When employees feel unheard, they start working  for the system  instead of working  with the system .

That’s why, over the past few weeks, I’ve been writing about a pattern I’m seeing everywhere — something I call  Culture Lag .

It’s not burnout.

It’s not disengagement.



­
­

It’s something subtler and more dangerous.

­

It’s when organisations change faster than their people systems can support.
