1. Which are the topics that can be explored within an organizational diagnostic study?

The main focus shall be on understanding the workplace pertaining to the following areas: employee engagement, team climate, training needs identification, training effectiveness, organization culture and climate, effectiveness of business process and systems/ HR process and practices, etc.

2. When should organizations go for a diagnostic study?

Organizations ideally take up diagnostic studies of this kind when they want to understand, explore, identify or plan actions for some key aspects. Diagnostic study, which is a systematic approach to capture findings related to some concerns or growth parameters, helps in planning action to address those challenges or future growth needs.

3. How often should the organization conduct these diagnostic studies?

Organizations conduct diagnostic studies one time a year or once every two years based on which priority actions are decided and worked on to improve or enhance the outcome on particular focus areas.

4. How many employees should be considered for the diagnostic studies?

Depending on the objective and focus of study, a sampling is done. However studies that focus on employee engagement or employee opinion surveys, tend to cover the maximum majority or 100 percent employees. Employees' voice matters and their responses help the organization in identifying areas needing attention. Higher response rates give a better understanding of employee opinions and needs. Hence organizations should encourage employees to take advantage of the opportunity to share their views.

 

In order to sustain the employees' motivation and trust, it is essential that organizations share the study findings with the concerned employees and take necessary actions on priority areas.

5. Who should conduct the diagnostic study for the organization?

Majority of the organizations take the help of third party vendors/ external consultants to carry out diagnostic studies in order to maintain objectivity, they also rope in experts and ensure confidentiality/ anonymity of the survey participants.
